“63” by Yuna Song
beams of life dripped through gaps of glass
my eyelids shivered, contracted from the
morning tang
you slide me closer,
my body fused with yours
five minutes turned to ten
turned to thirty
we jostled out of bed and tumbled
between routines
i kissed your cheek and you met my lips with a
smile, churning my blood to my
incandescent cheeks
“i’ll see you soon”
we left and came back
my birthday,
then yours
halloween
thanksgiving
christmas
new years
again,
we loved all the same since sixty-three
but now every morning the sun boasts gray
chills bite my cheeks,
how low they’ve become
my arm searches up and down our linen
though once was a vibrant crater
today lies an iced abyss
i turn over, basking in the scent
we once shared
pounds knock at my chest
the pulps of my heart shut my eyes
and i go back
to when the sun dipped of life
and you did too.
